What is FRC Robotics?

FRC, which stands for FIRST Robotics Competition, is an international high school robotics competition. It was founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1989 and is designed to inspire students to pursue further studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

How it Works

In FRC, teams of high school students, with guidance from mentors, design, build, and program robots to perform specific tasks. Each year, a new game is announced, and teams have a limited amount of time to design and build a robot that can compete in the game.

Competitions

FRC events take place around the world, culminating in the FRC Championship. The events are not only about the competition but also provide opportunities for students to interact with professional engineers, learn valuable skills, and qualify for scholarship opportunities.

Impact

Participating in FRC can have a lasting impact on students, helping them develop skills in leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication. It also exposes them to real-world engineering challenges and can open doors to higher education and career opportunities in STEM fields.

Team 1640: Who We Are

Team 1640, also known as “Sab-BOT-age,” is a dedicated group of high school students from Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2005, our team has been a passionate participant in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) with the goal of fostering enthusiasm for STEM fields among our members and the community.

Our Mission

Driven by the values of collaboration, integrity, and innovation, Team 1640 aims to nurture the technical, leadership, and interpersonal skills of our members. Through our participation in the FRC, we aspire to expand our knowledge, push the boundaries of our capabilities, and inspire future generations to pursue excellence in science and technology.

Our Achievements

Over the years, Team 1640 has achieved numerous accolades, including regional competition victories, awards for innovative design, and recognition for our community outreach initiatives. These achievements stand as a testament to our team’s dedication, ingenuity, and commitment to making a positive impact within and beyond the realm of FRC Robotics.

Embracing the Future

As we look ahead, Team 1640 remains steadfast in our dedication to cultivating a spirit of curiosity, creativity, and perseverance. We are eager to continue our journey of learning, competing, and contributing to the advancement of STEM education while embodying the core values of the FRC.

FRC Robotics is not just about building robots; it’s about building the future generation of innovators and problem solvers.

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
